Citizenship in Geography: The Bihari Farmer

A Year 7 group at South Dartmoor Community College developed their understanding of the global aspects of Citizenship by using a simulation called the Bihari Farmer. It asked them to make decisions about running a farm, in the Bihar region of India, in the face of many obstacles.

The students demonstrated a strong understanding of the issues and were able to evaluate the factors that contributed to success. In discussion afterwards, they were able to make comparisons with farmers in the UK and realise that many issues were common despite the very different context.
