Crime Prevention Debate

There are all sorts of Citizenship activities, run by different organisations. Here's an example of local schools participating in local activities.

Redbridge Crime Prevention Panel runs an inter-school Crime Prevention Debate, which is open to all students in Redbridge schools in Years 10-12. The debate takes place in the Council Chamber. RCPP debate welcome

This year five schools entered and debated the following topic in the opening round:

This house believes that anti-social behaviour is a reaction to a society that cares little for disaffected young people.

This year the level of debate was extremely high and it was difficult for the judges to decide on just two schools to go forward to the final. The two schools selected were: Canon Palmer School and Valentine's School.

The finalists debated the topic:

The competition is held in the Council Chamber and the teams are marked by a panel of judges who consist of the Mayor of Redbridge, the Chief Inspector of Police, and a Judge from the local Crown Court.

In the end, Valentine's School were victorious, and the Judge spoke to all the competitors about the excellent contributions they had made.

Here are the winning students, James Danvers and Richard Parasram receiving the trophy from the mayor with the rest of the judges, the Chairman of the Redbridge Crime Prevention Panel and Manager of the HSBC bank, which sponsored the prizes.
