Chocoholics

Chocoholics explores the basic factors that make a business work. Students are asked to consider ways of improving on an initial idea which proved not to be viable. They have to think about what customers want, the costs of supplying the product and the resulting profit.

They then work in teams to make the boxes for the chocolates. Finally they evaluate the competitiveness of their own and other teams' boxes so they have to think about costs of production and customer appeal.

The activity can be used within a Business Studies lesson or in the Citizenship/PSHE programme. It can be completed in one long lesson or two short ones.

It meets the requirements of the Citizenship Programme of Study 1e how the economy functions, including the role of business and provides an opportunity to develop the skills in 2b express, justify and defend orally and in writing, a personal opinion on issues, problems or events.
