Levellers Lesson 1

What would you put into an Agreement of the People?

In order to complete the activity, students need a working knowledge of the Levellers as a group and the context of the Putney debates.

After reading about the activities of the Levellers, students are asked to draw up their own Agreement of the People. Resource 1, which is supports this lesson, provides the material for discussion based group work.

Draw together the ideas of the groups and produce a common list.

Once the list is completed, provide groups with the Agreement of the People, Resource 2, and ask them to compare their own list with the Levellers' list.
