To vote or not to vote – Rationale

The lessons incorporate aspects of Citizenship within a GCSE Speaking and Listening assessment under the triplet, discuss, argue, persuade.

The skills of research and enquiry are of paramount importance, as teachers should clearly not be seen to steer the students’ argument in any particular direction – rather, students should be given the tools to produce an informed opinion on this topic.

Differentiation has been taken into account by the inclusion of different sets of data in lesson one. Upper ability students may wish to make their own graphs based on the parts of the raw data they find interesting. Lower ability students may wish to use the ‘cut down’ averaged version. The two data tables and the graph can be found in the ‘resources’ section after the lessons.

Lessons where the aim is to complete work started in previous sessions have not been given in this scheme, due to the fact that each individual class will require a different amount of time to complete tasks.
