PE and the Media – Introduction

This lesson fits into the GCSE curriculum or might be used independently in a citizenship lesson.


Sports stories often hit the headlines. They can be generally controversial or may offer different perspectives on the same story. This lesson encourages students to work out the argument to support a case and consider alternative perspectives. They work in groups to overcome issues or insecurity and personal agendas.

The lesson can be adapted to any issue that is topical. Some suggestions for topics have been made but the strength of the lesson is that it can capture matters of moment and therefore attract students’ attention and maintains their interest.
